Thanks, Partner!

The hard work you are doing, every day is truly making a difference, and paying off in better outcomes for your loved ones.

Dear Caregivers

This is an important week for all of us, and I want to take a moment to thank you for all your great work. I know how hard it is to be a caregiver, and I recognize the sacrifices you have made to ensure that your loved one has the best possible care that you can provide.

The reason it is an important week, and that I am thanking you, is that we are making scientific progress together. I am at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference, which takes place annually, to present some of the preliminary findings of how the Navigating Aging Needs program is improving peoples’ lives. The data from the NAN program — absolutely anonymous, of course — summarizes the amazing impact of the work of the NAN caregiver subscribers, in partnership with your NAN Navigators, and it is truly exciting.

We are finding improvements in overall outcomes, including reduced hospitalizations and other important health and wellbeing metrics. The most important takeaway is that the hard work you are doing, every day, is truly making a difference, and paying off in better outcomes for your loved ones. Thanks, Partner, and keep it up!

Of course, NAN is not your only partner: In true “navigator” fashion, we strive to be guides and advisors for a multitude of partners that you will need to depend on during this journey. Here are a few partnerships that every caregiver needs to focus on:

Finding your Caregiving Village:

There is a lot we can all learn from each other as we endure our individual journeys as caregivers. There are some needs and feelings that are universal and learning how others manage and navigate can often be hugely comforting. Here’s how to find your Caregiving Village.

Private Duty and Companion Care:

“Private Duty Care” and “Companion Care” are services intended to help your loved one to safely get through day-to-day activities such as personal care, preparing meals, housecleaning, and offering companionship. These services can also offer a break for caregivers, who can use the time to be on their own. Here is a list of recommended local private duty and companion care companies that might be useful in your caregiving journey.

Private Duty and Companion Care:

Sometimes having legal or financial expertise can be helpful in making important decisions. Here’s how to find and choose an Elder Law or Financial Expert.

Your Caregiver’s Plan B:

No family caregiver wants to think they wouldn't be able to help their loved one. But there is a chance that something could happen to you that would make it impossible for you to provide the care you do now. So it is critical that you identify someone who is the best “Plan B” caregiver, able to quickly take over as advocate and guardian for your loved one in the event that is needed. Here’s how to create your Plan B.

Remember, if you can’t find the information you need on our website, you can always “Ask NAN” by clicking on this link.
