Making the most out of the holidays

Dear Caregivers,

The approaching holiday season typically brings much comfort, joy, and family togetherness to people everywhere. But for your loved one, the holidays can also create challenges in terms of maintaining physical and emotional health.

As a caregiver, here's how you can help your loved one make the most out of the holiday season:

Pumpkin Pie

Eat healthy!

The holiday meals can provide multiple temptations overdoing it on salt and sugar. It's best to focus on having your loved one being able to enjoy a single, special treat, in order to have something to look forward to, but otherwise make sure you pack the protein in all your meals.

Keep it simple, socially

Large groups of people, with the accompanying noise and commotion, can be a real challenge for a loved one to navigate. Plan to do a series of smaller, one-on-one gatherings with friends and family as much as you can. If you do run into a situation with your loved one being over-stimulated, remember to “Think FAST”.

Don't forget yourself!

The more stress the holidays puts on your loved one, the more stress you will experience yourself. Make sure you take time to give yourself a break: Do some meditation, or follow some other strategies to avoid caregiver burnout.

Enjoy your holiday family time!

Best,
