Thanks, Partner!

Dear Caregivers,

This coming Thursday marks the Autumnal Equinox, the point where the tilt of the earth’s axis is parallel to its orbit around the sun. On that day, there is an even balance of 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness, marking the end of Summer and the beginning of Fall.

It seems like such a short while ago that I was writing in this newsletter about the Spring Equinox! Time feels like it has moved so quickly since we started our partnership with many of you.

Over the past six months we have learned a lot from you about how to improve our NAN offerings and services to meet your needs. Like a true partner, you have contributed so much to help us better understand what you are going through. One form of feedback comes from your engagement with the www.NANforCaregivers.com website, which tells us what kinds of information you are most interested in.

Here’s a sampling of the most sought-after content on the website over the past half year, as measured by our NAN analytics team. And don't forget: Your NAN Navigator is always available to help personalize your information plan and answer any questions you may have.

Create a "Caregiver Plan B"

No family caregiver wants to think they wouldn't be able to help their loved one. But the chance that something could happen to you that would make it impossible for you to provide the care you do now makes it critical that you identify an individual who is the best “Plan B” caregiver, able to quickly take over as an advocate and guardian for your loved one in the event that is needed. Here’s how to prepare.

The Basics of Advance Directives:

In situations where your loved one cannot speak for themselves, medical personnel will turn to the next of kin to get help in making important health decisions. It is important to have your loved one’s wishes of how to respond in a serious medical situation be known in advance, through several documents such as an Advanced Directive and Living Will. Here’s what you need to know about preparing these important documents.

Activities for a Good Day

Keeping your loved one occupied and engaged during the day is critical for their emotional wellbeing. Here is a list of 70 fun activity ideas to help you get started!
